Prosser nets a hat-trick as Wulfs do double over Wulfrun

After last weeks close game against Elmdon Heath, it was all eyes on the fourth XI's local derby with Wulfrun Invicta who were beaten 6 - 3 in the reverse fixture some four matches ago.

Once again selection was a problem due to injuries to most of the fourth XI over the last few weeks.

It was no surprise that an eleven man squad was named on Tuesday, night mostly made up of injured players who once again it was hoped would be fit to play come Saturday.

For the second week running by Friday morning the fourth XI were low on numbers due to injuries and unavailability's. A lot of the day was spent drafting players in so we could field a side come Saturday afternoon.

On arrival at ground it was nice to see that Wulfrun had been warming up for an hour and were clearly, as Danny would put it, chomping at the bit in anticipation of this game.

From the off the fourth XI looked very lively and should have a been at least 3 - 0 up within the first ten minutes, but Wulfrun's new goalie was stopping everything that was shot at him.

The game then became more typical of a Sunday morning game, hoof the ball, sh*t passing - or lack of, a sheer if it moves kick it attitude, and some dire positional play, much the dissatisfaction of player manager Chris Nicholls and his assistant Danny Cheal.

Towards the end of the half, the fourth XI took the lead when Mike Robertson used his silky skills to waltz past two Wulfrun players and slot the ball home from ten yards. A great goal which was emulated just one minute later when the Wulfrun number eleven scored a screamer from the half way line.

Half time couldn't come soon enough.

It was time for another half time rollocking from player manager Chris Nicholls, not for the first time this season, about wearing the shirt with pride.

It was a more composed fourth XI that went out for the second half and the football that was played was far better than the first half load of rubbish that was played.

It didn't take long before the goals began to flow, Gaz Prosser scored his first hat-trick for the club and, to be honest, if the Wulfrun linesman hadn't kept flagging he may have had a few more.

Ian Wrighty Phillips was also on target to make it five on the day.

Despite this great win against our local rivals, and the double over them, the day was marred by another injury, this time to Mike Robertson who was involved in a bad tackle by a Wulfrun player towards the end of the game and suffered a suspected dislocated hip.  At this time we are unsure what the long term damage is and wish mike a speedy recovery.

Ref watch:- The ref was Batty Boy's Uncle, literally, and the problem that I saw was that he watched over his nephew like an Uncle should, "one more tackle like that son and your in the book", despite being warned ten times.

Moan of the match:- Will we ever turn up and play in the first half !!!!!

Taxi of the match:- Joe Le Taxi gets this weeks nod along with Wulfrun's sub.

Joe gets his for playing right midfield in the first half when he was supposed to be playing in the back three.

Wulfrun's sub gets his for trying to make four subs, it was clearly lighting strikes twice for Wulfrun as a few seasons ago they had a Michael Jackson incident, yep you guessed it they named all their subs Michael Jackson and were exposed after Michael Jackson had already come as sub, but cos he's a smooth criminal, he want to come on as sub again.

Final score: Old Wulfrunians 5  Wulfrun Invicta 1.
