Wulfs travelled to Moor Lane with only ten players due to a number of cry offs.
It was always going to be a tough game and the mobility of the Aston Youth side didn't make a hapless task any easier.
The game started off as expected and Wulfs were severely under the cosh. Resolute defending from stand-in sweeper Andy 'Birthday-Boy' Skedgel and back from the dead Richard Lovegroove wasn't enough to stop Aston taking the lead on ten minutes. It wasn't a particularly good goal, they just had one more player and passed it around well.
I forget how many more went in before half time and if the truth be known, I had stopped caring by that point. All I could do is try to perform my best but, with only ten players, this wasn't ever going to be good enough against a talented Aston side.
The second half was a poor affair and the only highlights for Wulfs was a first ever headed goal for Sam Cole and a very funny miss from Gaz Lawton from two yards out.
The game then died off completely and the only real event of the last few minutes was an Aston substitute getting sent-off for kicking Matt Wright after being on the field for only five minutes - fool.
Well done to the lads who could be bothered to show up. A good workout on the day in a match we were never going to win. I just wish the penultimate league game of my managerial career could have ended on more of a high than this.
MOM was me by the way.
Final score: Aston Youth F&N 6 Old Wulfrunians 1.
