Old Wulfrunians v Wake Green Amateurs

Injury, work commitments, unavailability and first team call ups left a much changed side facing one of the top sides in the division. The first twenty minutes seemed to go very well with regulars Smith and Patrick the strongest forces ion midfield and the returning Richards showing how unlucky he ahs been not to get a regular shirt with good progress down the right creating half chances for Walkden and the makeshift striker Walters.

It seemed we had little to fear with veteran Dimmack and debutant Dix seeming to have good control over the opposing strikers. Sadly the game changed once again when indecisive defending from a set play lead to a rushed half clearance which was met at the edge of the box by a sweet volley from the centre back which keeper Hale did well to push onto the post only to see it roll along the line to hit the opposite upright and trickle over the line.

Five minutes later more Dracula like defending - yes the old chestnut about being 'frightened of crosses' would have to be used eventually, even by this correspondent! - led to the other centre back rising unchallenged to put the visitors two up.

At half time despite playing good football and having the lions share of possession we were two down and without the type of strong target man we needed it seemed a difficult ask to get back. However, all credit to the lads who went for it in the second half, again forcing Wakes back to the edge of their own box and dominating play without really creating strong goal scoring opportunities.

Then, without warning and while the ball was at the opposing end keeper Hale went down in the box complaining of numbness in his right arm and blurred vision. Cold sponge seemed to offer little chance of recovery and as substitute keeper Walters went in, an ambulance was called for the clearly distressed goalie. The rest of the game was missed as Wakes scored two more late goals as we pressed. Sam Cole came on and did well and the boys fought manfully on what just was not our day. On other days we have played worse and won.

Congratulations to the lads who stepped in and did well. None of them looked out of place in the higher division.

Roscoe was taken by ambulance for tests and spent the night in hospital.

Final score: Old Wulfrunians 0  Wake Green Amateurs 4.
