Wulfs visited local rivals Penncroft on the centre pitch of Aldersley Stadium and got out of the blocks very slowly.
Penncroft were playing three up front and it needed Mickey Cole to drop back in and pick the third striker up, unfortunately Wulfs were one down before this was properly sorted.
This, however, seemed to spur Wulfs on and they played some great football and created numerous chances. These fell to MC Jammer, Brian Flavell and Simon Stewart but the Penncroft keeper was in inspired form.
Wulfs felt unlucky to be 1-0 down at half time but carried on where they left off in the second half. Ten minutes in and the ball was blasted off Jim Lawton into the path of Paul Fothergill who finished with his left foot. Foggy then pulled his hamstring to be replaced by Adam Woodhall.
A Wulfs corner was cleared up field and as Woody went to clear, it sliced off his shin and into the oncoming forwards path 2-1.
Ten minutes later and Wulfs were still creating chances but a long punt up field was misjudged by Matt Williams and the forward slotted coolly passed Dave Scorer.
Wulfs still didn't give up and Brian Flavell's persistence paid off as he made it 3-2.
MC Jammer than had another opportunity but the goalkeeper was again equal to it.
Into injury time and the ball was crossed in from the left and Mickey Cole dived and his header was glanced wide.
This was the final attempt and Wulfs were again defeated but had played one of there best 90 minutes of football this season. The Penncroft manager had commented from the sideline "If these could finish their chances it would've been 8-4!"
Not much consolation but a greatly improved display by Wulfs.
Final score: Penncroft 3 Old Wulfrunians 2.
